Kota Kinabalu: Braylen Odell Johannes and Leong Shu Qi emerged Under-18 champions in the Sandakan district Sabah School Sports Council (MSSD) tennis tournament held at the Sandakan Tennis Courts over the weekend.
Braylen defeated Stevie Alfie Silvester in the final to take the boys’ title and third place went to with Sharvinesswaran A/L Uigneswaran.
The other top three age group winners were Shawn Alfie Silvester, Farish Athmar Jamludin, Mohd Ryan Rayzan Rooney (boys’ Under-15); Scharllotte Avryll Silvester, Bryana Scarllet Johannes, Yvanka Dyesebelle (girls’ Under-15); Bradley Oscar Johannes, Muhammad Faziezan Azief Rohjan, Chua Jiu Ek (boys’ Under-12); Sandra Allysa Silvester, Fellah Nabilah Jamludin, Aijilin Ai Lin Chan (girls’ Under-12).
The two-day competition organised by SMK Elupora 2 was held to select players to represent Sandakan district in the Sabah state level competition in August.
Sandakan district education department’s tennis technical officer Amir Bukhari Mohd Razali said a total of 36 players from six secondary schools and seven took part in the competition.
The prizes were presented by the district education department’s student development sector officer Ahmad Yusuf and also present was Sandakan District Tennis Association president Silvester Lawai.
