PUTATAN: A new approach needs to be implemented by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) in an effort to reach out to young voters in the State.
However, PBS Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said there is no specific indicator of what the party is doing yet.
“But the top leaders and existing members will certainly continue to convince the concerned groups so that they are able to express their support for the party.
“Of course, with Undi 18, we need to focus on them. PBS is the oldest party in Sabah which is 39 years and these young voters are as young as 18 years.
“Therefore, it is important for us to explain who and what PBS is so that young people know the direction of the party’s struggle.
“We are fighting for the rights of Sabah. Before the appearance of PBS, the average Sabahan did not know about this matter.
“In fact, PBS is labelled as anti-Federal and so on, but now we can see all the parties talking about the need for us to defend and fight for the rights of this State.
“We should inform these new voters so that they understand the history of PBS in the hope that they will join us in our struggle within the party,” he said.
Joniston said this when met by the media after officiating the 39th PBS Petagas and Tanjung Keramat Division annual general meeting at the Kampung Pasir Puteh Mini Hall, Putatan.
Commenting further, Joniston emphasised collaboration between existing veteran members and younger members.
According to him, the synergy of the two generations should go hand in hand to ensure that PBS can be driven further in the local political league.
