MUFC Legend Lahad Datu the overall champs

RANAU: The MUFC Legend Lahad Datu FC team emerged as overall champions of the 11-a-side Mix Veterans MP Ranau Cup 2024 Sabah Open Football Tournament which lasted for two days (July 6-7), at Ranau Sports Complex’s A field.
With the victory, the champions brought home a cash prize of RM10,000 along with medals.

Runners-up Kota Belud Mix team who also received a prize as the Best Team won a cash prize of RM7,000 along with medals. Ranau Clasico shared third place with the Marvilla team each carrying a cash prize of RM3,000 along with medals.
Meanwhile, Bok Shiang from the Kimanis Vet team was crowned as the Top Scorer with six goals, while the Player of the Year was given to Rahim Sahang from the MUFC Legend Lahad Datu and the Best Goalkeeper went to Lawrensius Petrus also from MUFC Legend Lahad Datu.
The prizes were presented by Ranau MP Datuk Jonathan Yasin, who was also the main contributor to the prize for the inaugural tournament, involving 20 teams from outside the district and 12 teams from the Ranau district.
Jonathan in his opening speech at the closing of the tournament, praised the participation of 32 teams who displayed the best quality, quality of play and sportsmanship.

“Congratulations on your participation, winning or losing is normal in any type of game. It is important that we all meet in the spirit of brotherhood and unity,” explained Jonatan.
He hopes that more teams will participate in football tournaments or other games in the future as a solid foundation for unearthing and honing talent and the potential to compete in more challenging tournaments.

“To Ranau Clasico as the organiser of this year’s tournament, well done and congratulations for successfully organising the tournament involving the participation of teams from outside the district.
“We are ready to help as much as we can to fund tournaments involving youth and veterans as a stronghold for youth from engaging in immoral activities that can ruin their future,” added Jonathan.
