Kota Kinabalu: The Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl’s Project Real (Rural-Focus, English For All) is highly beneficial to primary school students in rural schools, and should be continued as long as there is a genuine need, said Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew.

She emphasised this during a recent courtesy call by a delegation led by President Rosie Chong to brief her on the club’s programmes and forthcoming 10th Installation.

“I understand that Project Real has benefited 39 schools in 11 districts since its inception in 2016. I believe there are many more schools out there which aspire to raise the level of English proficiency among their students. This is where the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl (RCKKP) can step in to play an impactful role,” Liew said.

The latest beneficiaries are five schools in Ranau, namely SK Narawang, SK Bundu Tuhan, SK Nalapak, SK Poring, and SK Kimondou.

This event coincides with its proposed listing on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad ("Bursa Securities"), scheduled for 30 April 2025.
Chong attributed the success of the project to the club’s strong collaboration with the Sabah State Education Department.

The Minister noted that the club was also doing a great service to rural schools by providing clean water supply and building toilets under its water and sanitation project.

Meanwhile, Liew assured RCKKP that she would look into their request for some form of assistance that could be rendered for implementation of the club’s proposed education and health-related projects.

The delegation comprised Immediate Past President Datuk Aminah Ambrose, President Elect Chendramata Sinteh, Membership Chairperson Datin Jeanette Tambakau and Past President Datuk Eliza Goh. Chendramata will be duly installed by her predecessor as the new President for the 2024-2025 term on August 4.
