Kota Kinabalu: A local man who threatened to kill his aunt, a wheelchair user, with a knife, was sentenced to four months in prison on Tuesday.
Mohd Ali Kasim, 21, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to committing the crime against Faridah Maliki, 54, on May 7, this year, at 7am, at a house in Kg Tanjung Aru Lama, here.

The offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both, on conviction.
The prosecution informed the court that prior to the incident, the complainant asked Ali to switch off the light in the living room, as she could not do so herself as she is wheelchair-bond and unable to stand.
However, Ali replied, “Diam kau aku bunuh kau nanti (Shut up, I will kill you later),” and proceeded to take a knife from the kitchen, pointing it towards the complainant.
According to the complainant, the matter had occurred on multiple occasions before she decided to lodge a police report out of fear of potential harm.

Ali requested a lenient sentence.

The court ordered Ali to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on May 7.
In another case, a 27-year-old woman was fined RM4,000 or three months’ jail for engaging in an online gambling activity with a handphone for the third times.
Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie meted out the sentence to Rafhanah William after she admitted to committing the offence on July 1, at 5pm, in front of a premises at Kepayan Low Cost Housing near here.
The facts of the case presented by the prosecution stated that Rafhanah was arrested by a police team after she was seen involved in the gambling activity.
The charge under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both on conviction.
Before imposing the sentence, the court found Rafhanah’s record in the court system, revealing that it was her third time committing a similar offence.
