 Institut Latihan Teknik dan Perdagangan’s crucial role in Sabah’s progress

Kota Kinabalu: The Institut Latihan Teknik dan Perdagangan (ILTP), under the Human Resource Development Department (JPSM), is important in developing human capital in Sabah.

Satet Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said ILTP continues to produce competitive and sustainable human capital in various fields.

“Teachers are the main pillars and play an important role in providing inclusive skills education to trainees towards the development of society and economy of Sabah.

“In this era of globalisation and Industrial Revolution 4.0, the need for an efficient and quality workforce is increasingly urgent. Therefore, the recognition given to graduates today is proof of their ability to compete at the national and international level,” he said, when officiating the ILTP Convocation, which involved 234 graduates, here recently.

Arifin said the graduates also need to adopt a lifelong learning attitude and are encouraged to improve the skills they acquired during their studies.

“The skills acquired during studies must be developed through continuous training, face-to-face learning courses, online or self-learning.

“In line with the direction of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan 1.0 (2021–2025), under the thrust of Human Capital and People’s Wellbeing, the Government always supports all efforts implemented by JPSM in producing skilled, competent and competitive human capital when entering the field job.

“The Government will also always be committed to strengthening the TVET education system in our country through various initiatives and programmes that have been implemented to improve the quality of teaching and learning in TVET institutions.

“This includes providing state-of-the-art facilities, increasing training for teaching staff and expanding lifelong learning opportunities,” he said.

At the ceremony, an Electric Machinery Operator (AO) Programme for 2020-2022 graduate Chiristin Mail and an SKM Level 3 Hairdressing Programme graduate Cellawina Vanessa Mudir were awarded the 2024 Outstanding Trainer Award.

Assistant Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Harun Durabi and JPSM Director Dg. Norsiah Ag. Duran were also present.
