KENINGAU: Assistant Minister of Works, Datuk Robert Tawik hopes repairs along the Pamalan riverbank with the installation of armour rock can prevent soil erosion when the river is flooded.
He said the destruction of the land by those living in the surrounding area can be avoided.
“Repair and maintenance work on the riverbanks due to the recent flashfloods floods is going smoothly,” he said when conducting a survey of the repair work here recently.
Robert, who is also a Bingkor State Assemblyman, said that the repair work was able to overcome the erosion and collapse of the river bank when there was a flood.
He said the maintenance work on the river’s structure was also done in order to facilitate water flow when there is a flash flood.
Meanwhile, Kampung Sasaie Chairman of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), Majakus Tulin said that the people around the village are very worried about the destruction of their lands if the problem is not solved.
He said, this often happens every time there is heavy rain that causes flash floods to occur in the river, causing bank erosion and collapse due to the river’s flow not being smooth.
“I hope that after the installation of armour rock on the banks of this river and the structural repair and maintenance of the river’s flow, there will be no more problems faced by the villagers here when the river floods,” he said.
Makajus also thanked Robert who was concerned about this problem and came to the ground to inspect the repaired and maintenance works on the riverbank.
Also accompanying Robert in the visit were the Bingkor Community Development Leader, Junior Fred, Bingkor Community Development Officer, Tinus Majip, Community Development Supervisor, Haji Zaki Zakaria and the Mukim developers of the Bingkor Community Development Leader Unit.
