Kota Kinabalu: The Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera recently completed a sponsorship project at SJKC Yuk Kong in Keningau in a move to enhance educational facilities in rural Sabah.

The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Latter-Day Saints Charity Group, aimed to improve the learning environment and security at the school.

The project, valued at RM 209,000, saw the installation of various essential resources. These included laptops to support digital learning, bookshelves to expand the library’s capacity, tables and chairs to furnish classrooms and common areas, and a CCTV system to enhance school security.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering educational development and community well-being. We’re grateful for the generous support from the Latter-Day Saints Charity Group in making this a reality,” said Club President Roger Yapp.

This event coincides with its proposed listing on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad ("Bursa Securities"), scheduled for 30 April 2025.
Yapp also highlighted the pivotal role played by immediate past President Chaw Zie Der, whose aggressive liaison efforts with SJKC Yuk Kong and the Latter-Day Saints Charity Group were instrumental in securing substantial funding.

The Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera has long been dedicated to serving the community through various initiatives aimed at promoting education, health, and overall well-being.

This latest project at SJKC Yuk Kong is expected to significantly impact the quality of education provided at the school, equipping students with better resources for learning in today’s digital age.

As rural schools often face challenges accessing modern educational tools, this initiative by the Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera serves as a model for how community organisations can make a tangible difference in educational development.

The club hopes that this project will inspire similar efforts across Sabah and beyond, furthering their mission of service above self.
