Tenom: TENOM’s new RM6.27 million state library is under construction and expected to open in December.
The two-storey building would provide internet, audio-visual services, book borrowing besides being a point of information.
State Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said when replying Datuk Raime Unggi (Umno-Nominated Assemblyman) at the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Arifin said the project was approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan and offered to Sejiwa Construction Company.
“In addition, this new building will also be equipped with a multipurpose hall and meeting rooms which can be rented out to users.
“This project is regulated by the Sabah Public Works Department and construction progress as of June 2024 was 30.52 per cent,” he said.
Datuk Jonnybone J. Kurum (PBS-Telupid) asked about the Satellite Campus approved two years ago.
Arifin said the Human Resources Development Department (JPSM) had submitted an official application to the Sandakan Lands and Surveys Department to acquire land.
He said a satellite campus is a campus located far from the main campus or simply, a branch.
“This campus aims to provide formal educational opportunities to communities that may face logistical and access challenges.
“With its existence, more individuals in remote areas can obtain an education equivalent to that offered on campus,” said Arifin who is State Education Exco.
He said Sandakan Lands and Surveys is currently taking prompt action to ensure the application process runs smoothly and efficiently.
