Kota Kinabalu: More than 150 Api-Api Night Food Market hawkers participated in an operation to clean up Jalan Gaya, organised by City Hall (DBKK), from 6pm to 9pm on Friday and Saturday.
The gotong-royong activity, held for the first time, witnessed positive synergy between DBKK and the hawkers who are united in wanting to see Jalan Gaya in a clean, tidy and orderly condition.
According to a DBKK statement, the operation involved cleaning up the entire street, while DBKK led the cleaning of wild plants on buildings, trees and electrical wiring maintenance and repair of damaged road signs.
The operation started from Block A near the Gaya Street gate and ended at Block D.
Led by DBKK Deputy Director General (Operations) Robert B. Lipon, the operation also involved DBKK staff from the Licensing Department as the coordinating department, the Landscape, Solid Waste Management, Enforcement, Engineering, Transport and Traffic and Control and Building departments.
Also present were Licensing Department Director Rozie Khan A. Halik and Transport and Traffic Department Director Hana’aifah A. Suhaili.

Through this initiative, DBKK hopes Jalan Gaya will continue to remain clean, tidy and orderly, and be an example of a night market that is safe for hawkers and a favourite place of visit by tourists and city dwellers.
The Api-Api Night Food Market was temporarily moved to Padang Merdeka to pave way for the operation.
