TAWAU: Police busted a three-man gang called “Geng Loyok” involved in stealing car rims and tyres, following their arrests in separate operations here this week.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (BSJ) of IPD Tawau apprehended the first suspect, a 28-year-old local, last Wednesday.
“The suspect was arrested at a motorcycle workshop in the Takada Complex area at 4.40pm. A four-wheel-drive vehicle and a mobile phone were also seized.
“Initial investigation showed the suspect has a prior criminal record related to gambling,” he said.
Jasmin said following the arrest, another suspect, a 24-year-old foreigner, was arrested at 11.20am at the UTC Bandar Tawau area on Thursday.
He said a belt with a knuckle-duster buckle was also seized from the suspect who has no previous criminal record.
The third suspect, also a foreigner with a prior criminal record for robbery, was arrested on Friday.
“The 32-year-old was detained at 2.10pm also at the UTC Bandar Tawau area,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
Earlier, a report was lodged by a 24-year-old victim that components of his vehicle, worth an estimated RM1,000, were stolen on Wednesday.
The victim who left the components outside his house was informed of the theft by his aunt.
