PENAMPANG: The 6th Mimpaagat Cup veteran football competition organised by Kelab Rekreasi Mimpaagat Tokou Sabah kicked off at Padang Kibouvang in Kepayan on Sunday.
The in-house tournament with the motto ‘health, friendship and happiness’ has attracted a total of 17 teams with five competing in the 40s, eight in the 50s and four in the 59s categories.

Two matches were played after the opening ceremony officiated by club advisor Datuk Robert Stidi and club chairman Aloysius Wong.
The opening match saw Laison Ambun’s Kandavai 50s brush aside Bolitotok 50s 3-0 in the Master 50s category with a goal each from Rolando Ahanggai, Ronald Labangka and Tony Lojitan.
The Master 59s followed suit and Bolitotok 59s featuring two 70-year-old players Ernest Mah and Abu Kassim Nasir thrashed Kandavai 59s 5-1 after a second half four-goal blitz.
Both teams were tied 1-1 at half time with goals from Amdan @ Paci and Puin Pinduru, before Bolitotok stepped up another gear at the restart with three goals in the first 10 minutes with a brace from Jospin Gata and another from Fibian Besot followed by Jospin’s third.
The tournament is scheduled to be played every Saturday and Sunday until late December.
