Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Danial Allex Bobax Alex delivered a historic team bronze in Malaysia’s debut at the World Deaf Youth Athlete Championship held at the Taipei Stadium in Taipei on Monday.
The Kudat lad and teammates Muhd Zumar Azman, Muhd Amir Haziq Jaman and Muhd Zamir Azman clocked 45.56 seconds to finish third in the men’s 4 x 100-metre relay behind winners Japan and the United States.
Sabah Deaf Sports Association President Spencer Soo Kok Heng congratulated Danial for the achievement.
“We are really proud of him as the only Sabahan to represent the country in the Youth Championship for the first time and be able to win a bronze,” he said on Tuesday.
He added that Danial also competed in the men’s 200m and long jump events, but failed to win any medal and he was to compete in the men’s 4 x 400m relay late on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, two other Sabahans Ali Uwais Redzuan and Aidil A-Afiffat Juakim left for Taipei on Tuesday to represent the country at the World Deaf Athlete Championship to be held at the same venue starting today.
