Illegal jailed for disposing of stolen safe
Amzan, who was apprehended by a police team on May 16 the same year, led the police to the roadside in Norowot and showed them where he had disposed of the stolen safe, which had been opened and damaged.
Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday sentenced an undocumented Filipino to 12 months jail for disposing of a stolen safe.

Amzan Salah, 30, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to assisting in disposing of the stolen safe on May 16, this year, at 5pm, at the roadside of Norowot Peniang Lapasan Rugading, Tuaran.

The facts of the case presented by the prosecution stated that the safe was reported stolen from a shop in Penampang on May 15, this year.

Amzan, who was apprehended by a police team on May 16 the same year, led the police to the roadside in Norowot and showed them where he had disposed of the stolen safe, which had been opened and damaged.

This event coincides with its proposed listing on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad ("Bursa Securities"), scheduled for 30 April 2025.
He had committed an offence under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, on conviction.

Amzan was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest and be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.

In another case, a 32-year-old man was jailed five months for having three stolen smartphones.

Mohammad Ramadan admitted before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to committing the offence on July 9, at 7.50am, in a premises at Lorong Perindustrian, Mile 7, Jalan Tuaran Bypass.

The prosecution informed the court that the three smartphones were among items reported missing from an office on July 6.

Mohammad was apprehended and handed over to the police after he was noticed quietly returning the gadgets to the office upon learning that the thief of the gadgets was being tracked.

Unrepresented, Mohammad requested for a lenient sentence as he has a wife who was not working and a child.

The prosecution applied an appropriate sentence.

Mohammad was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code.
