PETALING JAYA: The government will propose suspending Bersatu’s Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal from the Dewan Rakyat for six months after he referenced a poison-pen letter alleging the true mastermind behind the Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) privatisation deal.
According to the Dewan Rakyat’s order of business for tomorrow, a minister from the Prime Minister’s Department will table the motion.
Wan Fayhsal is said to have made reference to the letter when debating the Suhakam report earlier this month in the House.
He had named an EPF employee as being allegedly involved in the takeover and cited the negative treatment of the employee’s subordinates.
According to the motion, the identity of the complainant and the authenticity of the letter could not be verified.
The allegations made by Machang (Wan Fayhsal) appear to tarnish the dignity of ministry officials who have diligently assisted in developing Malaysia, it said.
He has made serious statements and allegations and has acted to incite public sentiment against the government.
In a statement to the media, Wan Fayhsal said he would hold a press conference tomorrow at Parliament regarding the motion.
Wan Fayhsal has been vocal about the sale of MAHB shares to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), having previously urged the Public Accounts Committee and the national audit department to investigate the deal.
GIP and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority are poised to take up a 30% stake in MAHB through a consortium led by sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional Bhd, which will own 40%, and EPF 30%.
Several quarters have protested against the deal as GIP will be acquired in the third quarter of this year by global investment firm BlackRock, which allegedly has connections to Israel and its military.
However, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has said that GIP was chosen from among other companies as it had accepted the condition that the chairman and CEO of MAHB must be Malaysian.
GIP had said BlackRock was not involved in the deal. Khazanah also maintained that GIP would not be involved in the management of the airport operator.
