Kota Kinabalu: Two former port assistant officers were charged with using fake documents and cheating a small ship operator.
Salim Paee and Osman Adi, both 61, pleaded not guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga to the charges against them.
Salim has nine charges of using fake documents and one charge of cheating while Osman is facing one charge for using fake document.
The charges stated that Salim and Osman had signed a fake document as genuine which was a Sabah small boat licence for the addition of more than 12 passengers for which the licence was issued without complying with the application procedures for additional passengers.
Meanwhile, Salim allegedly cheated one small ship operator into believing that an additional passenger licence for a small ship could be issued without the approval of the Sabah Ports and Dermaga Department headquarters and caused the operator to give RM2,000 to Salim.
The court set Sept 4 for Salim’s case and Sept 12 for Osman.
Pending the date, both of them were released on bail of RM10,000 with RM3,000 deposited in a local surety.
The court also ordered the duo to report to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) office once in two months and their passports, if any, to be kept by the court pending the disposal of their case.
Prosecuting Officer Joe Randy Juster from MACC appeared for the prosecution.
