Kota Kinabalu: Some 28kg of waste, with 90 per cent of it being plastic, was collected in a Dive and Build programme organised by environmental non-governmental organisation Meraki Daat Sabah Initiative at Sapi Island and Kampung Lobong on Gaya Island.

A total of 35 people participated in the programme on Thursday, including 20 divers for the underwater clean-up at Sapi Island and 15 volunteers for eco brick- making at Kampung Lobong.

For the underwater clean-up programme, the 20 divers included sailors from the Sail Malaysia Rally East programme, local diving enthusiasts and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students.
