SANDAKAN: Tourists can now have free self-guided Sandakan Heritage Trail maps from most hotels in this district.
One of the hotels is Hotel Sandakan, which is a stone throw away from Masjid Jamik, the starting point of Sandakan Heritage Trail.
Founder and Chairman of Sandakan Heritage Trail, Lai King Hang, said free maps will be distributed to the hotels and other related tourism spots in stages.
Lai also said the map can be downloaded by scanning the QR code visible in all the maps and information boards along the route.
“Over the years, Sandakan Heritage Trail has grown to become one of the ‘must-see’ attractions of Sandakan covering 10 heritage sites which can be completed leisurely on foot in around two hours.
“New and updated Information Boards since early this year together with additional footprints can guide visitors walking the trail for the first time with ease.
“A light walking exercise to discover the past of Sandakan which was the pre-war capital of British North Borneo,” Lai explained.
Beside tourism, Sandakan Heritage Trail has also become a focus point for social programmes like runs and school projects to raise the awareness of heritage conservation to the public, especially the younger generation.
