Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s deaf shuttlers clinched the overall title for the first time at the 15th Malaysia Deaf Badminton Championship held at the Johor Badminton Academy in Johor on Sunday.
They won three gold medals in the adult category through Trisya Rafael in the women singles, Hairul Hakimi Mohd Jaeri and Hazmi Azis Shamsi in the men’s doubles, and Hairul Hakimi and Trisya Rafael in the mixed doubles.

Federal Territory and Sarawak finished in joint second place with two golds each.
Sabah’s three-member team was led by manager Huwainaa Danduan Abdullah and coach Yong Thain Vun.
Sabah Deaf Sports Association president Spencer Soo was delighted with the historic feat and congratulated the players and coaches for their hard work.
Meanwhile, the association will be taking part in the futsal and football in September and October and he hopes the private sector will come forward to sponsor the trips.
