KENINGAU: Keningau Vocational College (KVC) emerged as the champion when the students dominated all three categories of the hospitality skills competition among vocational colleges at the state-level at the college on July 20.
The students were the best in cooking, pastry and beauty and they will represent the college’s three hospitality programmes, namely Culinary Arts, Bakery and Pastry and Cosmetology at the national level.
This competition is a part of the initiative by Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) of Ministry of Education in elevating vocational education through a nationwide competition series that recognise the students’ trades and specialties.
Some 18 contestants competed in the three categories and each category was judged by a panel of experts with vast experience in hospitality industry.
Reisha Qistina from KVC was crowned as the winner of the cooking category while the second and the third places went to Raihan Syamiah from Tawau Vocational College and Castelina Della who is also from KVC.
KVC won all top three places in the pastry category with Fadzrul Pu’ad coming in first followed by Andrew Sading and Nurul Fithriyani Izwani.
Shamsiah Dumandan from the cosmetology programme of KVC clinched the title in beauty category while two students from Tawau Vocational College, Bellivia Rivera and Norlela Jaafar, came in second and third.
KVC Director, Nordin Akup, congratulated all the participants for their enthusiasm and dedication and thanked the teachers and volunteers as well as the organising committee for their efforts in making the competition a success.
He expressed his utmost appreciation to the winners and hoped they would work harder for the forthcoming national level competition.
