SSMS Resilient crowned SMJ Hockey League champs

Kota Kinabalu: SSMS Resilient came from behind twice to beat Paparian Hornet 4-2 in the final of the SMJ Hockey League Tournament held at the Likas Hockey Stadium on Sunday.
Paparian Hornet took the lead through Nasrul Syakir in the fifth minute but SSMS Resilient was able to equalise through Muhd Izhan Afzan five minutes later.
ADVERTISEMENT Paparian Hornet then reclaimed the lead with a goal from Muhd Izaz Afdhaal in the 17th minute before SSMS Resilient scored three goals in an eight-minute spell from Muhd Al Fiezan (30 min), Mohd Salahuddin (33 min) and Muhd Al Fiezan (38 min) to clinch the league title.
The best player in the final was awarded to Mohd Salahhuddin from SSMS Resilient and Paparian Hornet’s Mohd Azwanizansah was named best goalkeeper while the top scorer in the tournament went to Paparian Hornet’s Nasrul Syahkir.
A total of nine teams took part in the month-long tournament organised by Kota Kinabalu Hockey Association and in joint third place were Phantom HT and Paparian Eagle.
In the silver category, Horizon HT beat Gaya HT 2-1 to take the title while in joint third place were UMS and PSKPP Barat.
ADVERTISEMENT The closing ceremony was officiated by the Chief Minister’s Department’s Government and People Cooperation Institute (Ikrar) director Azrul Ibrahim who also presented the prizes to the winners.
