Kota Kinabalu: Netizens have mixed reactions to a recent RM200,000 daylight robbery at a traffic light stop in Shah Alam caught by a dashcam and viral on social media.
The video, spread by a Facebook page, Sukan Star TV, shows two motorcyclists approaching a Perodua Kembara, the apparent victim’s car. A Perodua Alza then moves forward to block its path.
Both sides of the Perodua Kembara’s doors are then opened, and the robbery ensues in less than a minute.
The footage shows two vehicles, including the one with the dashcam, recording the scene. A passer-by motorcyclist is also seen near the scene, waiting at the traffic light.
Some netizens condemned the motorists for standing by while the crime unfolded, while others believed it was safer to stay back and contact the police.
There are also different theories circulating among viewers.
Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed the incident happened on July 22, 2024 at a traffic light near a school, it was reported.
He said the victim was a 54-year-old local man, according to Sinar Harian.
“The suspects on motorcycle went towards the victim and broke the driver’s side window using an axe and pulled out the car keys to prevent the victim from escaping," he was quoted as saying.
“Another compliance, riding in a Perodua Alza, opened the front passenger door of the victim’s car before fleeing with a bag containing RM200,000 in cash.”
