PUTATAN: Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Minister, Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, said the State Water Department is working to restabilise water pressure in Tg Aru and Sembulan.

He said the Water Department is trying to rebalance water pressure in the areas involved because some areas have high water pressure while others have low pressure. Therefore, steps are being taken to restabilise the water pressure.

“I have received complaints from Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort and we have asked the Department to increase the pressure. In fact, the Sembulan area is also experiencing water supply disruptions.”

“At present, the Penampang area has high water pressure, so we’re trying to balance it. But in balancing water pressure, we need to be careful because we don’t want to transfer one problem to another.

“For the time being, we’re trying to stabilise the water pressure while waiting for the water supply to improve for long-term plans,” he said.

Shahelmey said currently, the water supply in the northern area of Kota Kinabalu returned to stability, with only the city centre experiencing some disruptions.

The current issue is balancing water pressure in addition to repairing old broken pipes. In fact, some pipes have broken due to construction work.

He said water problems in residential areas with management need to be examined for their true cause.

“Sometimes the water pressure outside is good, but due to technical problems such as non-functioning pumps or leaking tanks and pipes, issues arise. So, in such cases, we can’t simply blame the Water Department,” he said.

It’s understood that for the past few days, the Tanjung Aru and Kinarut areas have been experiencing low water pressure, resulting in several hotels and apartment areas not receiving water supply.
