Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu Journalist Association (KKJA) Chairman Jimmy Goh called on schools and parents to encourage students to participate in the 7th China-Sabah Short Film Competition.

“This competition aims not only to enhance students’ skills and interest in creating short videos but also to cultivate their storytelling abilities, allowing them to narrate their perspective on the “China-Sabah Friendship” through the lens,” said Jimmy in a statement, here.

To promote wider student participation, Jimmy, along with KKJA Secretary Teo Jinn Jiun and committee member Chu Ping Tyng, recently visited various educational institutions in Kota Kinabalu.

Through school promotions, they seek to raise awareness of this competition – which provides a total prize pool worth RM40,000 – among teachers and students, hence inspiring them to be goodwill ambassadors for the “China-Sabah Friendship.”

“The competition organised by the Consul General of China in Kota Kinabalu in collaboration with KKJA has now reached its seventh year,” said Jimmy.

He expressed gratitude for the support and enthusiastic participation from schools and the public over the past six editions which has allowed the competition to continue collecting more works and contribute to fostering friendship between Sabah and China.

“Short videos are trending now, but undeniably, many lack substance and may even mislead children.

Through this competition, we hope children can learn to create meaningful short videos based on their own experiences, which will also aid in their cognitive development.

“Exposing children to healthy video shooting and production techniques from a young age is beneficial, as it cultivates different life perspectives and an eye for beauty.

“With the rise of the short video industry and the era of interdisciplinary talents, mastering such skills and developing in multiple areas will significantly enhance children’s future competitiveness,” he said.

Those interested in participating in the competition can visit the China-Sabah Short Film Competition Facebook page.

The public can also watch previous winning entries on the competition’s YouTube channel.
