Lui takes over as new Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce President

Kota Kinabalu: Datuk Micheal Lui became the new Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC) president for the next three years after his team won the SUCCC 43rd election.

He takes over from Tan Sri Andrew Liew Sui Fatt.

Lui said being the SUCCC President was not a personal victory, but a big win for the 25 affiliated members.

“We must lead SUCCC as a team from now for greater glory,” he said.

He announced the appointments of several committee members, namely Honorary Secretary General Datuk Paul Yong Hen Vui, Asst. Secretary General Cheoh High Weal, Hon.

Treasurer Chia Seong Fatt and Asst. Treasurer Datuk Chee Chi Vun.

The team line up who won uncontested were SUCCC Deputy President Datuk Peter Guan Ka Hock, Vice President Datuk Pak Chee Eng, Vice President Datuk Chew Ah Kau, Vice President

Datuk Tang Lung Sin, Vice President Kapitan Ng Nai Yung, Chief Supervisor Datuk Sri Chong Nyuk Yong, Supervisor Yeo Boun Kiat and Supervisor Datuk Lim Bum Poo.

Liew thanked all who have given him support and cooperation since taking over 2017.

He said the journey had not always been easy. “We have weathered countless storms and faced many hardships,” he said.

“Despite those immense challenges, the leaders of the past have remained steadfast and shown great perseverance and dedication towards their service for SUCCC,” he said.

“During the pandemic, we were honoured to join forces with the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM )to raise RM500,000 within just five days,” Liew said. 

This donation was made to the Malaysian Medical Association Sabah branch to help with the medical needs to fight against Covid-19. 

He expressed his appreciation to SUCCC for authorising and entrusting him to handle the matters of Wisma Tiong Hua during his tenure.

“The land use conversion premium has been reduced from RM9.050mil to RM8.224mil, which equals to RM826,000,” said Liew. 

They have also successfully applied to the Sabah Land Survey Department to renew and extend its land lease tenure for an additional 20 years and successfully demanded a former joint-venture developer to compensate RM1.2mil to SUCCC and The United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK), the landowners of Wisma Tiong Hua project, for the delay in the said JV construction due.

The landowners have been paid RM600 respectively, he said.

Liew also thanked the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor for his support and trust during his seven-year tenure as President of SUCCC and commended ongoing state efforts to bring more prosperity and development through the Sabah Maju Jaya plan.
