PETALING JAYA: Police had to deny rumours of an attempted kidnapping of a 13-year-old in Johor after they found out he had concocted the story after he was late in returning home from school.
Seri Alam police chief Sohaimi Ishak said a complaint was lodged by a 49-year-old woman yesterday about the alleged attempted kidnapping of the teen in front of a fast-food eatery in Bukit Tiram, Ulu Tiram, near Johor Bahru.

The boy claimed that at 6.45pm on June 3, an unknown person in a white van tried to kidnap him while he was returning home from school, Bernama reported.
An investigation, however, revealed that the teenager had made the story up.
"The reported incident was fabricated by the teenager after being reprimanded (by his mother) for returning late from school," he said.
The police report on the alleged attempted kidnapping had gone viral, with a message urging parents and school van drivers to ensure children’s safety.
