BEAUFORT: Traffic police issued fines on nine lorry drivers for not covering their cargo while transporting earth on the road since last Saturday, said District Police Chief DSP Ismail Abdullah.
The police have continuously given warnings and reminders to truck drivers transporting soil to cover the transported soil.
Many reminders have been given for them to adhere to the safety of other road users because uncovered soil can cause soil and rocks to fall onto the road.
“It is not only dangerous to motorcyclists but also to other motorists when soil and rocks spill and hit other vehicles, which can cause accidents,” he said.
The police have received various complaints from the public, especially motorcyclists and car drivers, about the negligence of truck drivers who deliberately leave their trucks uncovered while transporting earth.
“Most of these lorries travel from Lumadan to Meraba, transporting earth without covers,” said Ismail.

What guarantee do these lorry drivers have that the soil and rocks they transport will not spill and fall, hitting other vehicles?
Surely this will damage other vehicles and cause accidents, and they should be aware of the safety of other road users, he said.
He said they should carefully cover the earth and rocks they transport, using canvas to cover and secure it so that it does not spill onto the road.
Heavier fines will be imposed on any negligent drivers, and the police will not compromise and will summon them.
