10 years, rotan for gang robbery

SANDAKAN: The Sessions Court on Monday jailed a 30-year-old man to 10 years jail and a stroke of the cane for committing gang robbery against a woman.
Judge Zaini Fishir @ Fisal handed down the sentence after Mohammad Zurfiqhar Mohd Sali admitted to committing the crime against Ramsia Kasim Koppong, 54, along with an accomplice still at large at 12.40pm at the Batu 5 bus stop on July 14.
ADVERTISEMENT The court heard from the prosecution that while at the bus stop, an unknown man got out of the front passenger side of the car and grabbed the victim’s backpack and ran away.
The victim was also injured as a result of a fight with the man who used a machete-type weapon.
The victim then lodged a police report which led to the arrest of Zurfiqahar who was driving the vehicle along Jalan Buli Sim-Sim.
