TAWAU: Job seekers in the State are encouraged to register in the Sabah Jobs Portal (SJP) System, which serves as a medium between job seekers, especially Sabahans, and employers offering career opportunities throughout Malaysia.

Political Secretary to the Sabah Finance Minister cum Kukusan Assemblywoman Rina Jainal said that as of July 25, a total of 15,068 job seekers and 508 employers offering 1,021 job vacancies have registered in the SJP.

“Make the best use of the SJP system to help find employment opportunities according to your suitability and qualifications,” she said after officiating the Tawau Career Carnival 2024 at the Tawau Community Hall, here.

Through the carnival, she said, around 1,000 job opportunities in various sectors were opened to Tawau residents, and it successfully placed more than 10 offers to job seekers, especially young people.

She hopes that more young people will be offered jobs through the carnival, thus, fulfilling the dreams of parents who want their children to have careers and indirectly help ease their family’s burden.

As a people’s representative who frequently goes to the ground, she said she often hears the complaints of parents worried about their children being unemployed and some who do not have higher education.

“This carnival is the best opportunity for them to try their luck, but they should not easily give up in getting a job because we must admit that competition is very high these days,” she said.

Elaborating further, Rina said that organising the carnival is one of the initiatives of the Human Resource Development Department (JPSM) to provide a platform connecting job seekers, especially young men and women, with employers or private companies offering job opportunities in this country.

According to her, the carnival not only focuses on job offers for job seekers but also other opportunities by exhibitors.

These include opportunities to further studies to higher levels, especially in technical and vocational fields, scholarship offers, on-the-job training, and short and long-term courses suitable for their qualifications.

Meanwhile, recognising the unemployment issue in Sabah, she hopes that the JPSM program can be continued and intensified to step up efforts in developing First Class Human Capital.

She said these efforts can produce competitive youths who remain relevant in the current market, thus preventing the unemployment rate from increasing, especially in rural areas.
