TAMBUNAN: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said that sports activities are able to develop quality human capital, have good skills and are able to become the country’s leaders in the future.

He said, sports activities also prevent students from getting involved in various unhealthy social symptoms.

“The field of sports is definitely the best platform to produce students who are physically fit, mentally resilient and highly disciplined,” he said when officiating the 56th Tambunan District School Sports Council (MSSD) Athletics Championship at the Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

He said through consistent and balanced training, sports are also able to form athletes who are highly prudent, responsible and have an identity and have high resilience.

According to him, a sports tournament is not only to determine the champion and winner of an event, what is more important is to provide indirect education to students and athletes that success can only be achieved through effort, perseverance, careful planning and sacrifice.

“There is no success that is easily achieved except through continuous struggle,” said the Tambunan State Assemblyman and Keningau MP.

He said the spirit of cooperation and tolerance is very important in the success of a sporting activity that seeks to foster racial unity among the diverse communities in Sabah, especially the communities in this district.

Jeffrey, who is also Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, invited all sportsmen to unite regardless of skin colour, race and religion.
