Kota Kinabalu: Four tonnes of rubbish were collected by the Centre Point Sabah’s management team during a coastal clean-up at Likas Bay Park on Saturday.
In just a two-hour session, they managed to collect a total of 4009.5kg of garbage, marking it the highest amount recorded, according to City Hall representative, Shahriezan.

“We are proud of the commitment to environmental sustainability shown by Centre Point Sabah’s management team.
“The amount of waste collected in just two hours is unprecedented and sets a new record for our clean-up efforts,” he said.
This event was the first organised by the management of Centre Point Sabah.
The success inspired the mall to plan future clean-up activities in collaboration with the local community, reinforcing their dedication to environmental stewardship.

“We are thrilled to have made a significant impact with our first coastal clean-up activity.
"This is just the beginning, and we look forward to working closely with the community to ensure the preservation of our beautiful coastal areas,” Public Relations Officer Meredith Madani said in conjunction with the mall’s 34th anniversary and the “No Plastic Day” enforced by City Hall.

The mall is launching the “Shop and Redeem: Bag It Bah!” campaign.
The initiative aims to reduce plastic waste and promote eco-friendly practices.
From Aug 24 to Sept 4, shoppers who spend a minimum of RM100 in a single or combined receipt during the anniversary celebrations will receive a foldable reusable shopping bag.
“This campaign aligns with City Hall’s 3B Campaign ‘Bawa Beg Bah’, as announced by the mayor in June 2024.
“A total of 3,600 reusable bags will be distributed to encourage sustainable shopping habits.
“The mall extends its gratitude to City Hall for their support in the clean-up activity and to sponsors whose contributions were instrumental in making this event a success,” she added.
The mall’s management encourages everyone to participate in future events and contribute to preserving the natural beauty of Sabah’s beaches which would be updated through on their official social media.
