Kota Kinabalu: Some 250 Indonesian couples working in Sabah plantations were solemnised at the Indonesian Consulate in Kota Kinabalu through a programme called “Itsbat Nikah.”
It started off with 64 couples on the first day, with farthest coming from Kinabatangan. The solemnisation was officiated by the Indonesian Religious Court, led by Jati Muharramsyah.

Consul-General of Kota Kinabalu, Rafail Walangitan, said the Consulate plans to conduct a similar marriage legalisation ceremony for non-Muslims in October.
It would mark the first time the Consulate undertakes such an event for non-Muslim couples.
