Sewer-rodding was conducted on the pipes beneath the road on Lorong Cempedak 6A.
CITY HALL (DBKK) is keeping tabs on its sewage system servicing the HSK Industrial Centre in Inanam and Lintas Plaza in Luyang, following feedback about the nuisance created by effluent soiling some of the common areas around these properties.
The agency also called eatery owners and, where it concerned, the management company to play a more proactive role to minimise the problem.

A spokesman for City Hall’s Engineering Department said special attention would be given to ensuring that the control panel for the sewage pumps in these areas functioned as they should.
The effluent escaping from this manhole at the HSK Industrial Centre has become a source of frustration to shop owners here.
He said its sewage contractor had been asked to be mindful of any electricity disruptions at Mile 7.5 Jalan Tuaran and Jalan Lintas.
ADVERTISEMENT “We asked him to get his workers to check on the pumps at their earliest opportunity after a blackout, in case they had tripped,” he said.
Despite operating on an automated system, he said the devices occasionally failed to come back by themselves when the power was restored.

“Because of this, it is important to go on site to confirm that the pumps are working. If they need to be switched on then this can be done.
“The sewage levels in the pipes will keep rising, the longer the pump remains inoperative.”
A shopper almost slipped and fell on this soiled pavement behind shops at Lintas Plaza.
The manholes on Lorong Cempedak 6A have been overflowing on and off for some time, which has proven bad for business.
Unit-owners in this part of the HSK Industrial Centre have lost many potential customers and tenants due to the stench coming from the effluent which periodically soils the road.
The stink, most recently, permeated these units for several days earlier this week.
The spokesman said City Hall’s maintenance crew went to the Inanam commercial property shortly after the authority was contacted by the media.
“The contractor’s workers opened several manholes, where the complainant’s unit was located, and found that the levels of the effluent were quite high.
“They immediately set about ‘sewer-rodding’ the length of the pipes underneath the road.”
A worker with City Hall’s contractor checks on the pump-sump servicing HSK and other properties in the surrounding area.
He said the agency’s technicians also checked on the mechanisms inside the sewage pump-house in the area but did not find anything amiss.
“Our contractor has been told to make regular inspections of the device, as well as the sewer pipes between HSK and the commercial centre next door.”
He said this individual was asked to step up efforts to clear the sewer-line as this would go some way to reducing the inconvenience caused to the public.
Where Lintas Plaza was concerned, the spokesman said the MC was responsible for attending to the pipes leading to manholes with a rectangular cover around the property.
“We were made to understand that effluent had been escaping from around the edges of the rectangular metal covers and spilling onto a section of the pavement behind shops on Lorong Lintas Plaza,” he said.
The shopper, who spoke out about these goings-on, almost slipped and fell while trying to cross the overflowing manhole behind a popular herbal drinks in this part of the Luyang commercial centre, according to him.
“The MC’s staff was made aware what had transpired and asked to have the sewage pipes cleaned as soon as possible.”
He said City Hall was assured that this would be done “within the next few days”.
“A follow-up check will be made once this ‘grace-period’ is over. Should our instructions remain unheeded, then further action can be taken against the MC.”
The spokesman declined to comment when asked to elaborate on the nature of this action.
“If need be we will notify the company in writing to be more mindful of the condition of their sewer pipes and not to be lax about dealing with any irregularities involving these structures.”
