LAHAD DATU: A pregnant woman died after jumping off the third floor of the Lahad Datu Hospital building, here, on Wednesday.

District Police Chief, ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said, the woman, who was 33 weeks was sent to the Emergency Department of Lahad Datu hospital on July 30 for treatment after she became aggressive.

The victim was then admitted to the ward on the third floor for treatment and further observation.

“While detained at the ward, the victim attempted to jump off the window of the ward on July 31 but was prevented by the nurses.

“The victim was given treatment and her hand was tied which led to her being aggressive. Her hand was released about 6.30pm after she was given tranquilizer and she did not display aggressive behaviour.”

According to Dzulbaharin, about 7.20pm, the nurse found that the victim was not on her bed and went to search for the victim before discovering that the victim was lying on the grass of the ground floor.

He said, the victim was rushed to the Emergency Department for further treatment. The victim also underwent a surgery to save her baby. The baby died in the womb.

“The victim was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but confirmed dead on Thursday.

“Preliminary investigation did not reveal any elements of foul play and the victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit for post mortem,” he said, adding that case has been classified as sudden death.

Dzulbaharin in a statement called on the public to refrain from speculating on the incident as well as negative impression on the incident.
