BN’s Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani (left) and PN’s Rizwadi Ismail will face off in the Nenggiri by-election later this month.
PETALING JAYA: The Nenggiri by-election on Aug 17 will see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional after nominations closed this morning.
The BN candidate is Gua Musang Umno youth chief Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, who is representing the unity government, while PN named Bersatu’s Rizwadi Ismail, who recently joined the party from PAS.

The names of the candidates were announced by returning officer Nik Raisnan Daud at the Dewan Perdana in Gua Musang, Kelantan.
The by-election is being held following the vacancy announcement by Kelantan assembly speaker Amar Nik Abdullah on June 19.
He made the declaration after receiving a notice from Bersatu that former assemblyman Azizi Abu Naim had ceased to be a member of the party on June 13.
As in the state election in Kelantan last August, the PN candidate will be using the PAS logo in this by-election.

According to the election roll, as of June 18, there are 20,259 eligible voters in Nenggiri, comprising 20,245 ordinary voters and 14 police officers. There will be no early voting.
BN won the Nenggiri seat for four consecutive elections since 2004 before losing it to PN in last year’s state election, when Azizi defeated Umno’s Ab Aziz Yussof with a majority of 810 votes.
