Drink-driving: Man jailed and fined

The offence under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2020) carries a jail term of up to two years, and fine of up to RM30,000, on conviction.
SANDAKAN: A 29-year-old man was jailed a day and fined RM10,000 or five months’ jail for drink-driving.
Magistrate Nur Faezah Jafry meted out the sentence to Boy Tomi after he pleaded guilty.
ADVERTISEMENT The court also ordered Boy’s driving licence to be suspended for two years.
Boy was found driving his vehicle under the influence of alcohol on April 6 at 11.05pm along Jalan Utara, Batu 5, here.

During mitigation, Boy asked for leniency.
ADVERTISEMENT However, Prosecuting Officer, Inspector Rodi Wong urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence to serve as a lesson to not only Boy but others to not to drive while under the influence of alcohol.
The court heard that on the said day, Boy was stopped during the Op Mabuk roadblock.
