PETALING JAYA: The Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) has expressed concern over the recent 16-second video making its rounds on social media showing a small group of people promoting a "free Bible course" next to a surau in Melaka
.
"To the best of our information and belief, no individual or group within or associated with our component bodies, namely, the Roman Catholic Church, the Council of Churches in Malaysia, and the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship, were involved in that incident," it said in a statement this morning.
"CFM supports the many calls on the authorities to investigate this matter and take lawful action necessary to maintain religious harmony in the country."
In the video, a group of individuals can be seen with leaflets stacked on a trolley next to the surau, and a sign saying "Free Bible Course".
Yesterday, Melaka police chief Zainol Samah said they had received four reports on the incident, which happened near the Stadthuys in Banda Hilir on July 27.
Zainol said the reports were received on Friday, with complaints made by four individuals, including staff from the Melaka Islamic religious department.
On Thursday, the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism also criticised the group, saying such actions were "very wrong".
.It urged the surau committee to lodge a police report. - FMT
