Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu MP, Datuk Chan Foong Hin, highlighted the crucial role of the digital economy in empowering Sabah’s future during the launch of the “Jelajah Saya Digital” programme in Kota Kinabalu, recently.

The programme, a collaborative effort between the Sabah State Government and the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), aims to equip Sabahans with the digital skills needed to thrive in the modern economy.

Chan emphasised the importance of embracing technology not just as a tool but as a catalyst for innovation and economic growth.

“Businesses need to adapt to the rapid pace of digital transformation,” he said, stressing the need for adopting cutting-edge technologies like analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and automation.

He commended MDEC’s efforts in supporting Sabah’s digital journey, particularly through programmes designed to empower small businesses.

These programmes, including workshops on e-commerce, digital marketing, and support for startups, provide entrepreneurs with the tools they need to leverage digital platforms and thrive in the digital marketplace.

Chan also highlighted the success stories of Sabahans who have benefited from MDEC’s initiatives, showcasing the tangible impact of these programmes.

He emphasised the importance of nurturing digital talent from a young age, highlighting programs like MDEC’s MyDigitalMaker, which introduces students to essential digital skills for the future.

He also praised the Digital Agriculture Technology (AgTech) initiative, a collaborative effort between MDEC and various stakeholders, which leverages technology to transform and digitalise the agriculture sector.

This initiative empowers farmers and attracts young people to the field, contributing to a more sustainable and prosperous agricultural sector.

Chan encouraged more Sabahans to participate in the “Saya Digital” programme, emphasising its ability to guide individuals in developing their businesses through e-commerce platforms and social media, as well as providing opportunities for earning income through MDEC’s training programmes.

The “Jelajah Saya Digital” programme signifies a commitment to empowering Sabah’s digital future, fostering economic growth and enhancing the lives of its citizens.

Chan’s strong emphasis on the importance of the digital economy and his support for MDEC’s programs underscore the shared vision of creating a more prosperous and digitally-enabled Sabah.
