Don’t get confused over National Day and Sabah Day: CM

Hajiji said the State Government’s efforts to bring development and prosperity to the people and the State as several important sectors in the Sabah Maju Jaya agenda continue to be a priority.
THIS year’s National Day celebration is very meaningful because Sabah will also be simultaneously celebrating Sabah Day after the State Government gazetted to commemorate the historic day last June.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor hopes there is no confusion, especially in the context of organising National Day and Sabah Day, because Sabah Day will be celebrated on Aug 31 as a unification point of Sabah’s multiracial people to develop the State together.
ADVERTISEMENT He said Sabah Day commemorates the day that marks the end of British rule in Sabah on Aug 31, 1963, and the beginning of the journey to self-governance and the formation of Malaysia.
“We want the people, especially the younger generation, to learn more about history not only regarding the celebration of National Day but also Sabah Day.
“However, what’s more important is our passion to continue to develop the State and our beloved country together,” he said when launching the 2024 State-level National Month, Sabah Day and Flag Flying Campaign at the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Kota Kinabalu, on Aug 2.
The Chief Minister said the State Government’s efforts to bring development and prosperity to the people and the State as several important sectors in the Sabah Maju Jaya agenda continue to be a priority.

He said the Government also emphasises human capital, in particular, the young generation who will inherit leadership in the future, to work hard to defend the country’s sovereignty from being continuously threatened by irresponsible parties.
ADVERTISEMENT According to him, “Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka” was chosen as the theme of this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day reflects the commitment to continue developing a just and prosperous society.
“This theme also carries an important meaning for us to ensure prosperity and progress, in addition to manifesting the people’s freedom from any negative elements in interpreting patriotic spirit through aspects of thinking, social integration and economy,” he said.
Hajiji hoped the people would continue to strengthen unity and harmony which has become the main force in the development and progress of the country and State.
“The people indeed have a great responsibility in preserving and defending the already established unity,” he said.
In conjunction with the celebration of the 2024 National Day, Sabah Day and Flag Flying Campaign, he called on Malaysians in the State to fly the Jalur Gemilang and the Sabah Flag in their respective residences, office buildings and business premises as well as vehicles throughout the celebration as a sign of appreciation and gratitude with the blessing of independence.
“It is certain that there is a high spirit and commitment for each other in making this celebration a success.
“I am sure the Jalur Gemilang and the Sabah Flag will always be there flying majestically as proof that we are all united to defend the blessings of independence,” he said.
Hajiji said various programmes are planned throughout this year’s National Month, among them the Kembara Merdeka, Symphony of the Soul Merdeka and the Merdeka @ Komuniti held at parliamentary and state levels.
“National Month is not just a celebration, it is also an opportunity for us to treat the people, maintain the spirit of struggle and patriotism among the multiracial people of this State,” he stressed.
