Lahad Datu ideal launch site for rockets
Yusof cited the United States Government which started with a rocket launch site and has since advanced to not only launching rockets but space technology that contributes trillions of dollars. - AFP pic (right) for illustration only.
LAHAD DATU: Lahad Datu has been identified as a suitable site to launch rockets/satellites in the country. 

Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal said this followed a study conducted by the Ministry.

Yusof said he has been informed about this matter and it is still in the analysis process.

“If this can be realised, it will certainly boost the economy of this country like developed countries that have advanced their space industry.

“If the rocket launch site can be realised here, we will become a leader in the rocket industry in our country and can contribute to the country’s economic development,” said the Lahad Datu Member of Parliament. 

However, Yusof said this can only be realised with the cooperation of all parties including the people to be in line with the country’s development aspirations.

"Therefore, the government hopes that we work together, be it the government, the people and the media so that when there are government policies or programs, we can function together so that the people can understand the government’s actions and goals,” he added.
