Jailed for entering hotel room illegally
The charge under Section 448 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to RM5,000 or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 26-year-old man was on Monday jailed six months for trespassing into a hotel room six months ago.

General worker Among Ajimudin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to sneaking into the housekeeping and pantry room on the third floor of a hotel here on Feb 18 at 11.02pm.

The charge under Section 448 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to RM5,000 or both, on conviction.

Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik informed the court that Among was detained by hotel staff for trespassing into the room and was handed to police.

Investigations revealed that before the incident, Among entered the hotel lift along with hotel guests who had the lift access cards.

Duty counsel Carmen Khoo, representing Among who is currently serving jail sentence for another offence, applied a lenient sentence.

Kelvan applied for a deterrent sentence.

Lovely ordered Among to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

In another case, a 27-year-old man was charged with having housebreaking tools.

Mohd Shazri Ghazali pleaded not guilty to having a screwdriver and a pair of gloves without a valid explanation at 2.30am, on July 6, next to a premises at Bandaran Berjaya, here.

The charge under Section 18(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance carries a jail term of up to six months, on conviction.

The court set Sept 25 for pre-trial case management of Shazri’s case and released him on a bail of RM1,000 undeposited in two sureties.

Shazri was also charged with taking narcotics under Section 15 of the Dangerous Drugs Act, in which he pleaded not guilty.

He was offered bail at RM1,500 in two sureties pending mention of his case on Sept 3.

In the same court, two individuals claimed trial to drunk driving.

Nurkiah Md Shukri, 31, and Walter Wernado, 30, pleaded not guilty respectively to the charge under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport (Amendment) Act 2020.

Traffic prosecuting officer Inspector Mohammad Khairul Nizam Mokhtar proposed bail at RM2,000 in one surety each.

The court fixed Sept 5 for mention of both cases and released the accused on a bail of RM1,000 in one surety each.
