Tons of rocks were found in the ground during the work of levelling the shop building project site in Simpang Empat, Kunak.
KUNAK: Tons of rocks were found on the surface of the construction project site here - that’s the main challenge for developers in the shop building construction site area in the Simpang Empat business area.

Indirectly, developers and contractors also face the challenge of high costs.
“The parent rock commonly found in Kunak is a type of basalt that has gone through the weathering process”, said a contractor who had inspected the construction site area there.
Historical research shows that Kunak district has several attractions, among which is a natural kartz tunnel in Mostyn Estate, a hot spring in Sungang Estate and a volcano mudpool in Binuang Estate.
All those areas are related to the existence of a dead or inactive volcano since tens of thousands of years ago in Mostyn.

These rock remains are abundant and commonly found anywhere in the construction site area in Kunak district.
The remnants of the weathered basalt parent rock can be found around the palm oil plantation near Pekan Kunak including in the construction site area during the dredging of the project site.

“One of the special features of this rock found is that it can be processed to produce smaller sized rocks using a rock crusher,” said a project supervisor.
