Kota Kinabalu: It's a heartwarming moment of kindness when a lecturer stepped in to assist a young student from Johor who faced multiple hurdles on his first day at a polytechnic in Penang

The story was shared on Facebook by the lecturer under the username Zaidil Adha.

Typically, parents accompany their children during new student registration, but Lim's father had to let him go alone due to financial constraints.

Zaidil said the father requested that Lim be allowed to check in to Balik Pulau Polytechnic's hostel a day earlier because the bus tickets from Johor to Penang were sold out for the day before the registration.

Consequently, Lim had to depart two days prior to registration day and Zaidil offered to pick Lim up at the bus station in Penang.

“On Saturday morning, I messaged Lim to ask what time he would arrive in Penang. I planned to pick him up at the bus stop so he wouldn’t have to walk," Zaidil wrote in a Facebook post.

“He replied that he was on his way to the polytechnic using Grab. Later, he messaged again, informing me that he had arrived in front of the polytechnic library. I went there immediately."

However, the early check-in day at the hostel was not as smooth for Lim as he realised he had taken the wrong luggage at the bus stop.

The lecturer kindly took him back to the bus stop to switch the bag.

“We took the wrong bag with us. In the car, I encouraged him, saying that today’s challenges would surely bring future rewards,” Zaidil said.

Once the issue was resolved, he took Lim to buy necessities and treated him to breakfast, ensuring he had everything he needed before sending him back to the hostel.

“Upon reaching Balik Pulau Polytechnic (PBU), I took Lim to the hostel. Shortly after, senior Chinese committee members came to greet and assist Lim.

“I am glad to have helped this student. I hope Lim studies well at the PBU,” he said.

Zaidil’s efforts to ensured Lim’s smooth transition to his new environment has won netizens' heart.
