E-Invoicing: 28,940 Sabah firms register

Kota Kinabalu: Some 28,940 companies are registered in Sabah to implement e-Invoicing which aims to strengthen the taxation system.
Inland Revenue Board (HASiL) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin said for the first phase, there are as many as 260 registered companies in the state.
ADVERTISEMENT “The first phase started on Aug 1, 2024 which is a mandatory implementation for businesses that reach a sales threshold of RM100 million per year.
“Meanwhile, the second phase on Jan 1, 2025 involves 680 registered companies with annual income or sales of RM25 million up to RM100 million.
“For the third phase, there are 26,800 registered companies in Sabah and there are two options for e-Invoice delivery mechanism that taxpayers can choose either through the MyInvois Portal or Application Programming Interface (API),” he said.
Dr Abu Tariq said this after a courtesy call to the Yang di-Pertua Sabah, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, here, at Istana Sri Kinabalu on Wednesday.
ADVERTISEMENT He said the statistics of e-Invoices successfully received by HASiL up to August 6, 2024 across the country were two million transactions involving 2,500 taxpayers and of that number, Sabah recorded 18,000 transactions.
“As an effort to help taxpayers implement e-Invoices comprehensively, HASiL will ensure engagement sessions and seminars with taxpayers are actively implemented during this period.

“We will also hold a briefing involving more than 1,000 traders to explain the e-Invoicing initiative in order to increase compliance and reduce tax leakage,” he said.
Dr Abu Tariq said 47,600 taxpayers who had accessed the MyInvois Portal so far.
Also present were Sabah Inland Revenue Board Director Azrul Hisham Shamsudin and Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Taxation Operations), Shaharrudy Othman.
