Labuan’s top STPM achievers rewarded

The top STPM students with their rewards.
LABUAN: Four students of SMK Labuan who passed the recent STPM with flying colours with a 4.O Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) were rewarded with an unexpected “ang pow” from Chairman of Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce Datuk Wong Kii Yii.
The four were Mathew Chew Kah Ming, Nur Amylia Safea binti Zairudin, Norashafiqa Nazira Erme and Nur Fazrinah Binti Jamal.
ADVERTISEMENT The rewards were handed to the top scorers at a simple ceremony at the office of the Education Director Tuan Hj Abidin Marjan witnessed by School Principal Mohd Nizam Bin Yasim and others.
The reward amount was not disclosed but it reliably learned that it was RM1,000 per student.
Wong who presented the ang pows said the aid was to encourage the students in their pursuit of academic excellence and one day return to serve Labuan and be good citizens.
He added that though the students were from different backgrounds he treated them equally well in the spirit of 1 Malaysia and hoped that when these students serve society they would be guided by the same concept.
ADVERTISEMENT Abidin in thanking Wong for his gesture said that it was the first time that such rewards had been handed adding that it had a meaningful impact.
