Kota Kinabalu: A monthly anti-bully programme was introduced in schools here, to effectively combat the escalating bullying incidents.

Spearheaded by seven Lion Club divisions in collaboration with the Kota Kinabalu Parliament office, it aims to address and curb the prevalence of bullying (pic) within the educational system.

Chief Communications Officer of the Parliament office, Kaven Lee Seng Vui, emphasised the significance of this programme in raising awareness about bullying, its detrimental effects, and the legal repercussions for both perpetrators and bystanders.

The inaugural session at All Saints Secondary School featured engaging talks for students and educators on the various facets of bullying, including its forms, impact and avenues for seeking assistance.

The programme’s primary focus lies in educating participants on identifying and addressing bullying behaviours, both physical and psychological.

As the initiative progresses, additional activities will be incorporated to further empower individuals to combat bullying effectively.

The overarching goal is to cultivate a safe and inclusive environment within schools where every individual feels secure and valued.

By fostering a culture of openness and proactive intervention, the programme endeavours to instil a sense of responsibility among students and staff members to take a stand against bullying.

Through collaborative efforts with law enforcement and community stakeholders, the programme seeks to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and resources to address bullying incidents promptly and decisively.

The Lions Clubs actively involved in this initiative, including Lions Club KK Waterfront, Lions Club KK Centennial, Lions Club KK Central, Lions Club KK City, Lions Club KK Damai, Lions Club of KK Metro, and Lions Club of Penampang Hongkod, are dedicated to promoting a zero-tolerance approach towards bullying in schools.

By engaging diverse speakers and facilitators, such as law enforcement personnel, the programme endeavours to provide comprehensive insights and strategies to combat bullying effectively.

The anti-bullying programme serves as a vital platform for fostering a culture of respect, empathy, and accountability within educational institutions.

By collectively addressing the root causes of bullying and nurturing a supportive community, this initiative endeavours to create a safer and more inclusive learning environment for all individuals.
