Kota Kinabalu: Companies and taxpayers with annual income or sales below RM100 million are advised to join the e-invoice system now although required to do so beginning Jan 1.
Inland Revenue Board (HASiL) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin said it is best not to wait and start practising now to submit their e-invoice to HASiL.

“We encourage companies and those who have annual income or sales threshold between RM25m and RM100m to join the system early.
“They will benefit as they will be familiar with the system and address whatever issues they might face before the time requires them to do so,” he said, after attending HASiL’s CEO Hi-Tea with Sabah media, Thursday.
He said the second phase on Jan 1, 2025 involves 680 registered companies with annual income or sales of RM25m up to RM100m.
ADVERTISEMENT The third phase would see 26,800 registered companies in Sabah involved and there are two options for e-Invoice delivery mechanisms that taxpayers can choose either through the MyInvois Portal or Application Programming Interface (API).
On any target number of companies to submit the e-invoice, Dr Abu Tariq said they have identified approximately 5,000 taxpayers who should start sending the e-invoice, for the first batch on Aug. 1, this year.

Without disclosing the target figures, he said they also have the amounts of taxpayers for the second and third phases.
In paying income tax, he said, there is no age limit as long as the person has an income that has reached the amount that should be taxed.
Dr Abu Tariq said HASiL is continuously tracking errant entrepreneurs who do not pay taxes as the agency has its own profiling activities and carry out operations.
“In addition, we also have an audit and in certain circumstances, we may have to investigate those who do not pay their taxes.
“In fact, we have various methods to identify them such as taking action based on information we receive from third parties.
“We will impose a penalty if we found there is an additional tax which need to be paid, as is provided under the Income Tax Act,” he said.
