Kota Kinabalu: World champion Angie Yan Jia Chi was proud to be chosen as one of the participants in the five-day Muay Thai extravaganza, a side programme held at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The 19-year-old Sabahan was the only two Malaysians together with Rifdean Masdor selected to represent the country in the event participated by more than 1,000 Muay Thai boxers from 24 countries on five continents.

“I am deeply honoured and grateful to have been chosen to participate in the Muay Thai showcase Olympics 2024 side programme.

“This incredible opportunity is a testament to the hard work and dedication that has brought me to this moment.

“I have to extend my heartfelt thanks to Dato’ Muhammaad Shahnaz Azmi and Muaythai Malaysia Association for recognising my efforts and giving me this platform to represent Malaysia to showcase my talents on such a prestigious stage.

“I would also like to express my profound gratitude to my mother, whose unwavering support and encouragement have been the backbone of my journey and also to Ir Hj Nazri Ab Razak, president of Muaythai Sabah for his guidance and belief that has helped me to reach this milestone.

“This experience is not only a personal achievement, but also a chance to inspire and connect with people from around the world. I am really excited to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” she said on Tuesday.

Angie is the current world champion in wai kru discipline won at the World Championships in Greece in June and is also the gold medallist from the World Combat Games in Saudi Arabia last year as well as winning the Under-23 World Championships twice.

Meanwhile, Nazri was proud of Angie’s achievement and said the two-quota given to Malaysia was based on merit approved by the world body.
