Woman charged with shoplifting

Kota Kinabalu: A part-time cook was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here Thursday with shoplifting.
Syakira Abdullah, 35, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to stealing three bottles of deodorant, a packet of biscuits and a packet of chocolate nips from CKS Grocer Inanam Capita on Aug 3 at 6.36pm.

The court set Aug 22 for pre-trial case management and released Syakira on a bail of RM1,000 in two sureties.
Earlier, the prosecution in applying for a pre-trial case management proposed bail at RM5,000.
Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, representing Syakira, requested a lower bail as she only works as a part-time cook with an income of RM50 a day.

Meanwhile, a 61-year-old man fined RM100 or a day’s jail for fraudulently having RM3,300 deposited into his bank account.
Ridzuan Othman pleaded guilty to having the money belonging to Chua Chun Suan in his bank account in which he failed to give a satisfactory explanation on how he obtained it on May 24.

The offence under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance, provides a fine of up to RM100 or up to three months jail or both, on conviction.
In another case, six people were jailed for taking drugs.
They were Julalias Julkifli, Julfika Paulus, Jaini Hakim, Murad Jaim, Jeremy Yakobos and Benjamin Julhasan, who admitted separately to committing the offence.
Julalias and Julfika were each sentenced to 18 months jail, Jaini was sentenced to eight months while the rest were handed six months jail.
Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction.
