Kota Kinabalu: City Hall will roll out the Sabah Smart Parking application to replace the current coupon-based system starting Oct. 16.
Mayor Datuk Dr Sabin Samitah said the app developed by DBKK Holdings Sdn Bhd is designed to be more convenient and time-saving.

It was introduced as part of a digitalisation effort to enhance the management of services within the city, aligning with the State Government’s aspirations to promote and develop a digital culture.
“The primary goal is to provide convenience to users by eliminating the need to manually scratch coupons.
“Users will no longer need to return to their cars to extend their parking time, as the application will remind them 10-15 minutes before their parking time expires, allowing them to extend their parking time through the application.
If users fail to extend their parking time, the system will notify them that a fine will be issued. The system will monitor parking time violations by checking vehicle licence plates,” Sabin said.

He said “Sabah Smart Parking” was chosen instead of “Kota Kinabalu Smart Parking” to reflect Kota Kinabalu’s status as the state capital and administrative centre.
“The mobile phone application can be used by people from all walks of life in Kota Kinabalu,” he said, after the soft launch, Friday.
DBKK Holdings underwent a rigorous selection process in choosing a service provider to develop this system, focusing on maximising returns for DBKK Holdings.
He said the implementation of this digital parking system is projected to reduce operational costs by up to 30pc and increase revenue by up to 20pc compared to the previous manual system.
“Although the operational costs of the digital parking system in Sabah are lower compared to some systems in Peninsular Malaysia, DBKK has selected a service provider that offers the best results with more efficient costs.
Sabin said the old parking coupons can still be used until they run out, or users can exchange them at DBKK information centres to be converted into credit in the new system.
“Currently, there are 27 information centres throughout the city ready to provide users with information about this digital parking system.
Sabin said DBKK is open to the possibility of expanding the use of the Sabah Smart Parking application to other local authorities (PBT) in Sabah, Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak if they are interested in this service.
